ZONEDE’s High Temperature Vickers Hardness Tester enables precise hardness testing from room temperature to 1200°C, supporting metals, ceramics, coatings, composites, and heat-treated materials.
As advanced materials continue to face demanding thermal conditions, accurate hardness measurement at elevated temperatures has become an important part of laboratory research and quality evaluation. The high temperature vickers hardness tester is designed for Vickers hardness measurement under controlled high-temperature and inert-gas environments, with a testing temperature range extending from room temperature to 1200°C.
Developed by ZONEDE, the system combines automated testing, precise positioning, and temperature control to support hardness evaluation of a wide range of materials. According to the product specifications, the tester is suitable for metals and alloys, ceramics, cemented carbides, composite materials, thin-film protective coatings, and heat-treated materials.

In-Situ Hardness Testing at Elevated Temperatures
A key feature of the high temperature Vickers hardness tester is its ability to perform hardness measurements directly under elevated-temperature conditions. The system is designed for in-situ Vickers hardness testing of materials up to 1200°C, allowing researchers to examine hardness behavior without removing or cooling the specimen.
The tester uses a diamond Vickers indenter with a 136° included angle and supports automatic indenter switching. With 10X and 20X objective lenses, it is configured for different observation and measurement requirements. The available test force range covers 0.2, 0.3, 0.5, 1, 2, 2.5, 3, 5, 10, 20, 30, and 50 kgf, while the hardness range is specified as 5–3000 HV.
The loading process is fully automatic and programmable, with a dwell-time range of 5–60 seconds. This configuration helps streamline repeated testing and supports controlled hardness measurements across different material conditions.
Designed for High-Temperature Material Characterization
The high temperature vickers hardness tester is positioned for applications involving high-temperature material characterization, coating and surface engineering, cutting-tool and wear-material evaluation, and research and quality control.
For high-temperature material characterization, the system can be used to evaluate hardness changes associated with thermal stability, oxidation resistance, and high-temperature mechanical behavior. In coating and surface engineering, it supports hardness testing of thin films, protective coatings, heat-treated materials, and surface-hardened layers.
The system also supports performance assessment of cutting tools, cemented carbides, and wear-resistant materials under high-temperature conditions. For research and quality-control laboratories, its automated testing and analysis functions are intended to improve testing efficiency and repeatability.
Precise Temperature Control and Inert Atmosphere Protection
Temperature control is central to the system's operation. The tester provides a temperature range from room temperature to 1200°C, with a heating rate of 10–80°C/min and temperature stability of ±1°C.
An inert atmosphere protection system is also included. The product information describes a closed-loop gas purification system that maintains oxygen and moisture levels below 1 ppm, helping provide a stable testing environment for oxidation-sensitive materials.
The system also uses a molybdenum disilicide heating system for temperature control and stable heating from room temperature to 1200°C.
Automated Positioning and Testing
The tester features an 8 mm × 8 mm X-Y stage travel and a 12 mm Z-axis travel, supporting specimen positioning during testing. The Z-axis positioning accuracy is specified at ±0.05 μm. Its computer-controlled operation integrates automatic loading, unloading, and objective/indenter switching, helping simplify the testing workflow.
The maximum specimen size is listed as Φ15 × 10 mm, while the equipment dimensions are approximately 3000 mm × 1500 mm × 2000 mm (L × W × H). The specified power supply is AC 220 V, 50/60 Hz.
With its combination of high-temperature capability, automated testing, precise positioning, and inert atmosphere protection, the high-temperature Vickers hardness tester provides a dedicated platform for studying hardness behavior under demanding thermal conditions.
From metals and alloys to ceramics, cemented carbides, composites, protective coatings, and heat-treated materials, the high temperature vickers hardness tester is configured to support laboratory research, material characterization, coating evaluation, wear-material assessment, and quality-control work where hardness must be measured at elevated temperatures.
