ZONEDE’s Linear Reciprocating Tribometer enables precise friction and wear testing with adjustable load, frequency, and amplitude. Optional temperature chambers support testing from -150°C to 1400°C.
As materials and components are increasingly evaluated under demanding operating conditions, precise friction and wear testing has become an important part of research and quality inspection. A new Linear Reciprocating Tribometer provides a versatile platform for simulating reciprocating friction conditions while supporting controlled high- and low-temperature testing.
The system is designed to precisely simulate reciprocating friction, helping users evaluate material wear patterns and friction coefficients as well as anti-wear and friction-reducing performance. With optional high- and low-temperature chambers, the Linear Reciprocating Tribometer can extend testing beyond conventional room-temperature environments and support research under diverse conditions.

At the core of the system is the Linear Reciprocating Tribometer, which uses a high-precision servo motor as its loading method. The rated measurement load ranges from 1 N to 20 N, with customization available.
The instrument provides a reciprocating frequency of 0.1–20 Hz and a reciprocating amplitude of 0–16 mm, allowing test parameters to be adjusted for different reciprocating motion conditions. Its X-axis travel is 6 mm, while the supported specimen size is φ20–φ30 mm (1≤H≤10 mm).
These adjustable parameters make the Linear Reciprocating Tribometer suitable for testing various specimens and simulating the operating conditions of reciprocating motion components.
High- and Low-Temperature Testing Expands Research Capability
One of the system's notable features is its flexible temperature configuration. The optional high-temperature unit supports temperatures from room temperature to 1000°C, with ±3°C accuracy, and can be customized up to 1400°C. An optional purification system and inert gas atmosphere chamber are also available.
For low-temperature research, the optional low-temperature unit provides a range from -150°C to room temperature, with ±5°C accuracy, and can be customized down to -190°C. Cryogenic-resistant alloy fixtures are available to support testing in these demanding environments.
This broad temperature capability enables researchers to investigate friction and wear behavior across significantly different thermal conditions, making the system suitable for extreme high- and low-temperature studies.
Applications Across Research and Quality Inspection
The Linear Reciprocating Tribometer is designed for a broad range of applications. It is suitable for reciprocating friction testing of various materials, particularly when users need to simulate the operating conditions of reciprocating motion components.
The system is also positioned for university research, enterprise quality inspection, new material R&D, and extreme high/low-temperature studies. These applications require reliable data acquisition and flexible testing parameters, both of which are incorporated into the system design.
Its sensor system uses a dynamic strain type sensor, with a piezoelectric type available for customization. A 1000 Hz data acquisition rate supports real-time monitoring and stable data transmission during testing.
Built for Accuracy, Stability, and Adaptability
The Linear Reciprocating Tribometer combines several features intended to improve testing consistency. Its cast iron machine body supports accurate and repeatable loading measurements, while adjustable temperature configurations allow testing across diverse environments.
The system also offers strong adaptability through adjustable parameters that can accommodate different specimens and operating conditions. High-frequency sensors enable real-time data acquisition, helping provide accurate test information throughout the measurement process.
The specified linearity is < 0.1% FS, further supporting precise measurement performance.
With a measurement load of 1–20 N, reciprocating frequency of 0.1–20 Hz, amplitude of 0–16 mm, and data acquisition at 1000 Hz, the Linear Reciprocating Tribometer provides a flexible platform for controlled reciprocating friction studies.
More importantly, its optional temperature systems extend testing from -150°C to as high as 1400°C, depending on configuration. This makes the Linear Reciprocating Tribometer a practical solution for researchers and quality-control teams seeking to understand material friction and wear behavior under simulated operating environments.
