Discover the Two Stage Light Gas Gun designed for ultra-high-speed impact testing, dynamic material research, protective materials evaluation, and extreme impact studies.
As advanced materials research continues to explore dynamic responses under extreme conditions, high-speed impact testing has become an important tool for understanding material behavior. The Two Stage Light Gas Gun developed by ZONEDE is designed as an advanced research platform for studying the dynamic response characteristics of materials under extremely high pressure and ultra-high-speed impact.
With impact velocities ranging from 1000 to 4000 m/s, the Two Stage Light Gas Gun provides a platform for new protective materials, material dynamics research, and fundamental impact studies.

High-Speed Performance for Dynamic Material Research
The Two Stage Light Gas Gun is designed around a two-stage gas system. Stage 1 uses nitrogen, while Stage 2 uses helium, providing the specified working-gas configuration for ultra-high-speed testing.
Its impact velocity range is 1000–4000 m/s, with a velocity repeatability deviation of ±5%. The high-pressure gas chamber has a maximum pressure of ≥150 MPa, while the second stage has a maximum pressure of ≥200 MPa.
The launch tube has a 16 mm bore diameter, with customization available. These specifications allow the system to support demanding high-speed impact experiments while maintaining controlled testing conditions.
The system is suitable for new protective materials, projectile materials, and various special materials requiring ultra-high-speed impact testing. It also supports multiple projectile launch tests, providing flexibility for research programs involving different material configurations.
The test impact chamber has a diameter of 1000 mm and a length of 3000 mm. The velocity measurement section has a diameter of 300 mm and a length of 800 mm, with velocity measurement accuracy specified at ±1%.
Vacuum conditions are also incorporated into the system design. The launch tube requires <1 Pa, while the target chamber operates at 50–100 Pa, supporting controlled experimental environments.
Broad Application Areas
The Two Stage Light Gas Gun is positioned for applications across several research fields. Its application areas include materials science, civil protection, fundamental physics, aerospace-related research, and space debris impact simulation.
It can also be used to evaluate protective material performance, study extreme impact characteristics, and support research involving astrophysical processes. These applications make the system relevant to laboratories investigating material behavior under highly dynamic conditions.
Precision Control and Stable Operation
The system combines high-speed performance with measurement and control capabilities. Its PLC remote console provides centralized control of the equipment, while the specified velocity measurement system supports accurate assessment of experimental conditions.
A key advantage of the Two Stage Light Gas Gun is its combination of high pressure and high precision. The system is designed with high pressure-bearing capacity and precise velocity measurement, supporting reliable experimental data and repeatable research results.
The equipment also incorporates vacuum, protective, and other safety-related devices, together with an anti-interference design. These features are intended to enhance experimental safety, stability, and controllability during high-speed impact research.
A Platform for Extreme Impact Research
With equipment dimensions of approximately 28 m × 3 m × 2 m (L × W × H), the Two Stage Light Gas Gun represents a dedicated large-scale platform for advanced impact testing.
By combining 1000–4000 m/s impact velocity, two-stage nitrogen and helium gas operation, high-pressure chambers, controlled vacuum conditions, precise velocity measurement, and PLC remote control, the Two Stage Light Gas Gun provides researchers with a specialized platform for studying material responses under extreme high-pressure and ultra-high-speed impact conditions.
